Dice of Duty Code of Conduct for Dungeon Masters

At Dice of Duty, we believe stories heal. Our games are meant to bring people together in courage, creativity, and camaraderie. To protect this mission, we hold our staff, Dungeon Masters, contractors, and community members to the highest standards of respect, integrity, and professionalism.

This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behavior and the disciplinary actions that may follow violations.

1. Core Values

  • Respect: Treat all players, staff, and community members with dignity. No discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
  • Integrity: Be honest, transparent, and accountable in all actions.
  • Professionalism: Conduct yourself in a way that reflects positively on Dice of Duty.
  • Safety: Prioritize the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of players and staff.
  • Inclusivity: All are welcome, regardless of background, identity, or experience level.

2. Expected Behavior

  • Always use respectful and inclusive language.
  • Maintain boundaries: no inappropriate relationships, behavior, or communications with players (especially minors).
  • Honor confidentiality of personal or medical information shared in confidence.
  • Follow Dice of Duty’s policies on AI use, creative work, and intellectual property.
  • Show up on time for games, prepared, and ready to engage players positively.
  • Report concerns or misconduct through proper channels.

3. Prohibited Behavior

  • Harassment, hate speech, or discriminatory behavior of any kind.
  • Bullying, intimidation, or abuse (verbal, written, or physical).
  • Breach of trust, including sharing private information without consent.
  • Inappropriate or exploitative behavior toward minors or vulnerable individuals.
  • Substance use that impairs ability to run or participate in sessions.
  • Misrepresentation of Dice of Duty in public or private settings.

4. Disciplinary Actions

Disciplinary actions are taken progressively, but serious violations may escalate immediately.

  • Verbal Warning – A private discussion to address the behavior and expectations.
  • Written Warning – A documented notice outlining the misconduct and corrective action required.
  • Suspension – Temporary removal from games, events, or duties (unpaid if contractor/DM). Duration depends on severity.
  • Termination – Permanent removal from Dice of Duty as staff, contractor, or community member. May also include referral to authorities in cases of criminal or safeguarding violations.

5. Appeals & Restorative Action

  • Individuals may appeal disciplinary decisions in writing within 14 days.
  • When appropriate, Dice of Duty may offer restorative actions (training, mediation, mentorship) in addition to or instead of disciplinary measures.

6. Accountability

  • This Code applies to all staff, contractors, volunteers, and players under the Dice of Duty brand.
  • Violations undermine our mission of mental health, resilience, and community. We will act swiftly to protect our players and our values.

Together, we roll not just dice, but the bonds of trust and healing.

Dice of Duty Code of Conduct for Players

At Dice of Duty, we believe in the power of tabletop role-playing games to build courage, resilience, and community. Our tables are places of imagination, safety, and camaraderie. To protect this space, all players must agree to follow this Code of Conduct.

1. Core Player Principles

  • Respect First – Treat your fellow players, Dungeon Masters, and staff with dignity and kindness.
  • Play Together – We lift each other up, not tear each other down.
  • Safety Matters – No harassment, bullying, or harmful behavior will be tolerated.
  • Inclusive Tables – Everyone is welcome. Discrimination of any kind is forbidden.
  • Fair Play – Play honestly, respect the rules, and work with—not against—the group’s fun.

2. Expected Player Behavior

  • Notify your DM if you will be late to a game or unable to attend.
  • Listen and allow others to share the spotlight.
  • Use respectful, inclusive language both in and out of character.
  • Accept DM rulings gracefully, even if you disagree.
  • Keep table talk supportive and constructive.
  • Communicate openly about triggers, concerns, or boundaries.

3. Prohibited Behavior

  • Harassment, discrimination, or hate speech of any kind.
  • Intentionally making others uncomfortable with offensive jokes or roleplay.
  • Disruptive behavior that ruins the experience for the group (arguing, hogging spotlight, refusing to cooperate).
  • Cheating or manipulating dice, character sheets, or rules for unfair advantage.
  • Sharing private, personal, or sensitive information about other players.
  • Inappropriate or unsafe interactions with minors.

4. Disciplinary Actions

Discipline is progressive and depends on the severity of the behavior:

  1. Verbal Reminder – A DM or staff member will remind the player of expectations.
  2. Official Warning – A written or recorded warning outlining the violation and next steps.
  3. Suspension – Temporary removal from one or more game sessions.
  4. Expulsion – Permanent removal from Dice of Duty games and community spaces.

Severe misconduct (harassment, threats, unsafe behavior, or anything involving minors) may result in immediate expulsion without warning and may be referred to legal authorities if necessary.

5. Restorative Options

  • When possible, Dice of Duty may offer restorative actions such as conflict resolution, coaching, or guided apologies before suspension or expulsion.
  • Players are encouraged to communicate openly if they feel conflict brewing so it can be resolved early.

6. Reporting Concerns

  • Concerns about player behavior should be reported to your DM or Dice of Duty staff.
  • All reports are taken seriously and handled discreetly.

Dice of Duty exists to build heroes, not villains. By sitting at our table, you agree to uphold these standards so that together we can create stories that heal.
